How to Choose a Coffee Table That Actually Fits Your Space
A coffee table seems like a simple buy. Then it arrives — and it’s either too big (your shins keep hitting it) or too small (it looks like a coaster in front of your sofa). Coffee tables have more rules than you’d expect. Finding the right small apartment coffee table means measuring first and shopping second — not the other way around.
How to Pick a Small Apartment Coffee Table
📏 14–18 inches of clearance between the sofa edge and the nearest edge of the table. Less = you’ll bang your shins. More = you’ll lean forward uncomfortably for every drink.
Rule 2 — The Right Length
📏 Coffee table should be approximately ⅔ the length of your sofa. Never longer than the sofa. Example: 84″ sofa → coffee table should be 50–60″ long.
Wrong coffee table is a math problem, not a taste problem.
Store your sofa dimensions in the All-in-One Decor OS once — and every furniture purchase after becomes a calculation, not a guess.

📏 Top of the coffee table = same height as sofa seat, or 1–2″ lower. Most sofa seats: 17–19″ from the floor. Most coffee tables: 16–18″ tall. Measure your actual sofa before buying.
